Meet the Practitioners

Carlton Cameron, Kids Company

Carlton currently manages the Urban Academy, a 16 + education provision run by Kids Company.  Carlton works at a street level, providing emotional, educational and employment support to young people marginalised from school and education.


Paulette Douglas, Communities Empowerment Network 

Paulette has worked as an education advocate for CEN for 6 ½ years, providing support, advice and representation for children and families who experience exclusion from mainstream education.  Paulette regularly liaises with school officials, head teachers, education lawyers, parent partnerships and statutory bodies including CAMHS, Education Psychology and Education Welfare and works in partnership with social justice, grass roots and community organisations.


Ben Goldberg, Islington Arts and Media School

Ben has been an experienced teacher of 26 years.  Much of his teaching practice has been concerned with at risk pupils, having spent some considerable time managing Behaviour Support Units in mainstream schools as well as extended education provisions for previously excluded pupils.


Steve Benson

Steve Benson works as a Family Psychotherapist within the NHS. Steve has extensive experience of consulting to professionals and working therapeutically with children, young people and their families. He works with children and young people across a range of contexts, including schools, who experience significant emotional, behavioural and neurodevelopmental difficulties.


Dorrett Boswell

Dorrett Boswell has a long standing interest in the needs of pupils at risk of school exclusion, having being a Trustee of Working for Children in Wandsworth, worked in Pupil Referral Units, the Special Education Needs sector and served as a School and Parent Governor for 15 years.  She has also facilitated School Governor Training, and is currently an Associate Member of the Institute for Learning (IfL).


Sarah Lemay

Sarah Lemay has worked as a social worker managing a National Health Service Rapid Response Team.  She has considerable experience of working with challenging young people and their families and has been involved in partnership working with schools.
